What is Really Happening in Syria Today?
Mother Agnes-Mariam of the Cross, is Catholic Mother Superior at the Monastery and Convent of St. James in Qara, Syria. Lebanese born, she has served in Syria for over 18 years. She suffered an attack by gunmen upon her vehicle in May of 2013. Many of the populations in the towns around her monastery have since been become refugees.
Leading an international delegation with Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire, they have born witness to the events in Syria, and she has reported these facts on three continents including Europe and Australia. She is a Primary organizer of Mussalaha (“Reconciliation”), a popular movement in Syria that mediates disputes and organizes ceasefires between opposing forces. She will be traveling to the Vatican to meet with
Pope Francis later this year.
Mother Agnes has been a vocal advocate for the victims, through her Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights, reporting events not shared by the Western media.
