Syria Support Movement solidarity with the Syrian people
What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Mr. Stone this is not the first time that UN is appealing for funding and assistance and aid for the Syrian people but it seems that there is no lack of funds when it comes to supporting insurgents who are fighting the government of President Bashar al-Assad but these funds seem to disappear when it comes to the Syrian population. What do you make of that?
Stone: I agree with you 100%. The problem with Mr. Ban Ki-moon is that he cannot see the forest for the trees.
There was no refugee problem in Syria three years ago before the foreign-backed mercenary war was unleashed on that sovereign country by some Western and Arab countries.
There were no four million internally displaced people inside of Syria before their mercenary intervention began. What Mr. Ban Ki-moon has to do as the United Nations chief executive officer is to enforce the charter of the United Nations.
He has to approach those countries that are waging an illegal, covert military aggression against Syria; the countries are 11 core countries of the so-called Friends of Syria group.
He has to approach them and say you must cease and desist from your covert military action; you are violating the UN charter, you are violating the international law.
And then he has to turn as well to the 40 periphery countries in the Friends of Syria group and say to them, you have created illegal regimes of economic sanctions against Syria and these sanctions have not been approved by the United Nations Security Council, they are illegal and you must dismantle these regimes (of illegal sanctions).
Press TV: Well, Mr. Stone it was hoped that some of these things might be achieved in that Geneva II Conference on which many expectations were depending, however that conference seems like a thing of the past, now very unlikely to take place as many are pointing out, due to the stance of the so-called SNC (Syrian National Coalition).
So what about the people of Syria? What is going to happen considering it is just the arms that are finding their way into Syrian territory and in the hands of the foreign-backed insurgents but no food, no aid, no medicine is getting there.
Stone: Mr. Ban needs to prod both countries that are holding up Geneva II Conference by trying to set preconditions for the talks. The Geneva communiqué of 2012 made it very clear, very simple, a ceasefire and negotiations without preconditions but the countries that sponsor the mercenaries, certain countries in the West, including Canada unfortunately, are trying to set preconditions saying that Mr. Assad would have to go first.
Well, Mr. Ban has to approach these countries who are dragging their feet and allowing the mercenaries whom they support, to stop throwing a monkey wrench into the works.
They have to get down to their business and come to the Geneva II with all the countries in the region who are involved and settle the issue in a political rather than a military way.
