Syria Support Movement solidarity with the Syrian people
Déclaration de PAJU sur la Syrie, conférence de presse le 3 décembre 2013
En tant que représentant de Palestiniens et Juifs unis, je suis ici non pour appuyer le gouvernement de Bachar al-Assad ni pour appuyer les forces de l’opposition syrienne. PAJU appuie certains principes, dont le principe de la souveraineté du peuple syrien, le droit du peuple syrien de décider de son avenir collectif sans l’intransigeance d’interventions étrangères dans la vie collective et nationale du peuple syrien, ainsi que le principe de l’intégrité territoriale de la Syrie selon les préceptes du droit international.
Il est clair qu’il ne peut y avoir un règlement militaire de la situation en Syrie, comme il est clair que le conflit israélo-palestinien ne peut être résolu par l’intervention militaire. La seule possibilité pour résoudre le conflit est une résolution entièrement syrienne, libre de toute intervention étrangère que ce soit. Pour ce faire, PAJU demande le retrait de toutes les forces étrangères qui sont actuellement en sol syrien et cela sans distinction; que ce retrait soit supervisé par des pays non alignés sous l’égide des Nations Unies. Il faut que toutes les parties intégrantes syriennes impliquées dans le conflit actuel soient assises à la même table de négociations afin de promouvoir la résolution du conflit. La forme du gouvernement qui résultera de ces négociations doit être décidée par les Syriens et non par les intérêts étrangers.
Il faut noter que l’état syrien en est un à caractère laïc et cet état inclut 23 minorités parmi la population syrienne. Il est à souhaiter que la Syrie reste un état uni oùtoute sa population peut vivre dans un climat de paix et de compréhension mutuelle et cela en dépit de la tentative de certains intérêts étrangers à morceler le pays afin d’atteindre certains objectifs géostratégiques.
Certains intérêts, dument identifiés par le journaliste Seymour Hersh en 2007, avaient déjà autorisé des opérations clandestines contre la Syrie en prônant la tension sunnite-chiite comme instrument de diviser pour régner afin d’atteindre certains objectifs géostratégiques, et cela sans la moindre préoccupation des conséquences que tels jeux machiavéliens auraient sur les populations civiles concernées. La Libye et le Liban furent aussi ciblés.
Le peuple syrien s’est avéré la proie de ces desseins et maintenant plus d’une centaine de mille Syriens sont morts, victimes d’atrocités commises par les deux côtés dans le conflit, et des centaines de milliers sont devenus des réfugiés. Des milliers de Palestiniens hébergés dans les camps de réfugiés en Syrie , dans les conditions de vie déjà moins que désirables sont parmi eux, chassés des camps de réfugiés après avoir été chassé de la Palestine, réfugiés à deux reprises. Parmi toute cette population syrienne chassée de leurs domiciles et terres, la famine et les maladies s’installent.
PAJU demande que la communauté internationale assure dans le plus bref délai l’octroi de vives et de médicaments pour les réfugiés syriens sans quoi le nombre de fatalités va sûrement grimper. PAJU souhaite qu’un règlement politique syrien soit négocié afin que tous les Syriens déplacés puissent réintégrer la Syrie et que la reconstruction de la Syrie soit.
PAJU veut aussi faire noter aux medias rassemblés ici aujourd’hui que dans l’ombre du conflit syrien, on a oublié le sort des Palestiniens à Gaza où, suite à la fermeture de la traversée de Rafah par le gouvernement militaire égyptien, et toujours victimes du blocus illégal israélien, la famine et les maladies s’installent aussi et les Gazaouïs crèvent lentement de faim. Quand la justice pour les peuples bafoués du Moyen Orient? Quand le respect du principe de l’autodétermination des peuples?

Statement by Palestinian and Jewish Unity on Syria delivered by Bruce Katz at the press conference for Mère Agnès de la Croix in Montreal Dec. 3rd, 2013
As a representative of Palestinian and Jewish Unity , I am not here to support the government of Bashar al- Assad nor to support the forces of the Syrian opposition. PAJU supports certain principles, these being the principle of the sovereignty of the Syrian people , the right of the Syrian people to decide their collective future without the intransigence of foreign interventions in the collective and national life of the Syrian people, as well as the principle of the territorial integrity of Syria according to the precepts of international law.
It is clear that there can be no military solution to the situation in Syria, as it is clear that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved by military intervention. The only way to resolve the conflict is a Syrian resolution free of any foreign intervention whatsoever. To do this, PAJU demands the withdrawal of all foreign forces that are currently on Syrian soil, without distinction; that this withdrawal be supervised by non-aligned countries under the auspices of the United Nations . All Syrian interests involved in the current Syrian conflict must be seated at the same negotiating table in order to achieve the resolution of the conflict. The form of government that would result from these negotiations must be decided by the Syrians, not by foreign interests .
It should be noted that the Syrian state is secular in nature and this state includes 23 minorities among the Syrian population. It is hoped that Syria will remain a united state where all its people can live in a climate of peace and mutual understanding, this despite the attempt by some foreign interests to break up the country to achieve certain geo-strategic objectives.
Certain interests , duly identified by the journalist Seymour Hersh in 2007, had authorized covert operations against Syria by promoting Sunni – Shiite tension as a tool to divide and conquer in order to achieve certain geostrategic objectives , without the slightest concern for the consequences such Machiavellian games would have on the concerned civilian populations. Libya and Lebanon were also targeted.
The Syrian people have fallen prey to these plans and now more than one hundred thousand Syrians have died, victims of atrocities committed by both sides in the conflict, and hundreds of thousands have become refugees . Thousands of Palestinians in refugee camps in Syria where the living conditions were already less than desirable, are among them, driven out of their refugee camps after having been driven out of Palestine, refugees twice over. Famine and disease are now affecting the Syrian refugees driven from their homes and lands.
PAJU demands that the international community provide food and medicine for Syrian refugees immediately, otherwise the number of fatalities will surely rise. PAJU wants a Syrian political settlement to be negotiated so that all of the displaced Syrians can return to their homeland, and that Syria be rebuilt .
PAJU also wants the media gathered here today to note that in the shadow of the Syrian conflict , we have forgotten the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, where following the closure of the Rafah crossing by the Egyptian military government , and still suffering the Israeli illegal blockade , famine and disease have also settled in and the Gazans are slowly starving to death . When will there be justice for the beleaguered people of the Middle East ? When will the principle of self-determination for all peoples of the earth be respected?
