ISIL photos show road being cut through Iraq-Syria border

Jun 11, 2014, Press TV

Takfiri militants in Iraq have released pictures of militants bulldozing a barrier between the Iraqi-Syrian border, symbolizing their goal of uniting forces in the two countries.

The al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) posted the pictures online on Wednesday following their advance in northern Iraq.

One of the pictures allegedly showed a bulldozer cutting a road through the Syrian-Iraqi border between the Iraqi province of Nineveh and the Syrian town of al-Hasakah.

It was not possible to independently verify the authenticity of the pictures.

Early on Tuesday, the militants took control of Nineveh province and provincial capital Mosul, forcing “over 500,000 people in and around the city” to flee, according to Geneva-based International Organization for Migration.

The Takfiris are reportedly launching attacks against the city of Kirkuk.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that the country’s security forces would confront the terrorists, calling the seizure of Mosul, Iraq’s second city, a “conspiracy”.
