Russia is hosting peace talks aimed at working out a solution to more than 4 years of conflict in Syria.
The Syrian government and members of opposition, including the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change, are taking part in the discussions in Moscow. Syria’s UN envoy Bashar al-Jaafari is representing Damascus in the talks that will run through Thursday. The fight against terrorism as well as humanitarian issues will be at the heart of the conversation. A major breakthrough, however, is unlikely as the main Western-backed opposition, the Syrian National Coalition, has boycotted the negotiations. This is the second round of Russia-mediated talks. In February 2014, Moscow hosted the first round which ended without any concrete results.
