Turkish Foreign Ministry says it has given the green light to the United States to use its air bases in the southern belt, for attacks against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria. The Turkish prime minister has defended the decision.
Ankara has added that from now on Turkish jets will take part in the airstrikes by the so-called US-led coalition against the ISIL. President Erdogan had already confirmed that the US Air Force will use Injerlik Air Base within a certain framework. American warplanes used the Injerlik in the 2003 invasion of Iraq as well as for imposing a no-fly zone on the country in the 1990s. On Friday, Turkish jets hit three ISIL positions in Syria. The attacks reportedly took place inside Hawar al-Naht village near the border leaving a number of terrorists dead. Turkey began its air raids after the ISIL terrorists shot dead a soldier and wounded two others.
