Addressing of the solidarity gathering with the heroic Palestinian people in Syria
26 Oct 2023 The WFTU General Secretaty, Pambis Kyritsis, addressed a solidarity gathering with the heroic Palestinian people in Damascus, Syria, on October 26th, 2023.
The gathering took place in the headquarters of the General Federation of Trade Union (GFTU) Syria and had a massive participation of hundreds of workers from Syria and Palestine.
As the General Secretary addressed, for the WFTU it is clear that the Israeli crimes committed against the Palestinian people, receive the support and tolerance of the big imperialist powers, the USA, the European Union and the rest of their allies. We will continue standing in solidarity with Palestine, and to condemn the new barbaric aggressiveness, which aims to impose by brute force of arms, the perpetuation of the occupation of the Palestinian land, the colonization of Palestinian and other Arab territories and the denial of the right of refugees to return to their homes in peace and security. It is also clear that today, the need for international solidarity might be more needed and more urgent than ever.
On behalf of the WFTU, the General Secretary assured for the readiness of the Federation to strengthen even more the solidarity wave in support of Palestine. To mobilise the working class against the Israeli aggression, against the hypocrisy of the imperialist states, against the barbaric behaviour and the mass killing of innocent people!
Meeting of the WFTU: General Secretary meets with the President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad
25 Oct 2023 On the occasion of the visit of the WFTU delegation to Syria, the General Secretary, Pambis Kyritsis, held a meeting today with the President of Syria, Mr. Bashar al-Assad.
The meeting reaffirmed the WFTU’s enduring support for the workers and people of Syria and their struggle against imperialism.
It was stressed that as in the case of Syria, so now in the case of Palestine, the WFTU will remain in solidarity and a firm ally of the peoples of the region in their struggle against occupation, war and foreign interventions.
The solidarity of the WFTU with the struggles of the people of Syria, and the Middle East more broadly, is not a spark. We understand that as the aggression of imperialism intensifies, so will our solidarity. As WFTU, we will remain consistent and firm in our positions, pointing out in every way possible the hypocrisy of the imperialists, and mobilising class-oriented and militant trade unions in every corner of the globe to stand in solidarity with every suffering people.
WFTU’s delegation to Lebanon
27 Oct 2023 During the last day of the visit to the Middle East, the WFTU delegation, led by the Secretary General, Pambis Kyritsis, visited Lebanon.
During the visit, meetings were held with Abdulla Abd El Kadr and Ali Taher Yassine, leaders of the General Union of Palestinian Workers and the Lebanese Al Wafa respectively, as well as with other militants from Lebanon and Palestine.
In addition, the General Secretary of the WFTU, addressed a meeting in a Palestinian camp in Lebanon.
The visit confirmed once again the enduring and unconditional solidarity of the WFTU with the struggling people of the region!
WFTU on the completion of the visit to the Middle East
27 Oct 2023 The WFTU mission to the Middle East, led by the General Secretary, Pambis Kyritsis, was successfully completed today.
During the 5 days of the visit, the General Secretary held a series of meetings with trade unions and Organizations from Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, political parties, and the political leadership of Syria. Furthermore, the delegation participated in solidarity activities with the struggling people of Palestine, organized by the class-oriented trade unions of the region.
The visit had been a very good opportunity to reiterate the long and cordial relations between the WFTU and Organizations of the region, and also to agree on a common action plan between them, with activities and initiatives in favour of the Arab peoples and the workers’ interests.
The common finding of all the activities carried out in the framework of the visit, is the fact that organization, militancy and internationalist solidarity are the most powerful weapons of the peoples struggling for freedom, for dignity, for disengagement from foreign interventions. The unity of the peoples’ struggle can and must defeat imperialism.
The WFTU, on the occasion of the completion of the visit, reaffirms that it will remain consistent and firm in its positions and in its support to the struggling people of the Middle East. We will continue to point out the hypocrisy of the imperialists, and to condemn Israel’s murderous aggression and the support it receives from the big imperialist powers, the United States, the European Union and their other allies. The international class-oriented trade union movement will continue to stand on the correct side of history: with the struggling people, against imperialism!
