Turkish Drone attacks | 22 People Killed in SDF-Controlled Areas in February

from SOHR, March 1, 2025

SOHR documents the death of 87 people, including child, journalist and three Turkish soldiers, in attacks in east Aleppo countryside in February

Turkish drones continue their attacks on civilian and military positions of SDF in north-east Syria, leaving many casualties.

In this context, the Syrian Observatory documented eight airstrikes by Turkish drones in SDF-controlled areas in February. Those attacks left 15 fatalities; they are as follows:

  • Ten civilians, including a child.
  • Four SDF members.
  • A member of the Community Protection Forces aka “Essential Protection Forces.”

They also left five civilians and two members of the “Essential Protection Forces” injured.

Those airstrikes are distributed regionally as follows:

  • Al-Raqqah: Four airstrikes left two civilians, including a child, and a member of the “Essential Protection Forces” dead and two member of the “Essential Protection Forces” injured.
  • Aleppo: Two airstrikes left five civilians injured.
  • Deir Ezzor: Two airstrikes left four SDF and eight civilians, including six workers, dead.

On the other hand, different areas in Aleppo countryside experienced escalating military operations in February, namely the frontlines of Teshreen dam, Qarquzaq bridge and parts of Ain Al-Arab countryside (Kobani). Those operations included infiltration operations and clashes between Syria Democratic Forces on one hand, and Turkish forces and their proxy factions on the other, as well as airstrikes by Turkish fighter jets and drones.

In February, SOHR documented the death of 87 people in military operations on frontlines of Aleppo countryside; they are distributed as follows:

  • 56 Turkish-backed militiamen.
  • 25 SDF members.
  • Three civilians, including a child and a journalist.
  • Three Turkish soldiers, including a sergeant.

It is worth noting that Turkish airstrikes, which come as a part of the unprecedented military escalation which started in east Aleppo countryside on December 12, 2024, have deepened the sufferings of civilians who have already been grappling with disastrous security and humanitarian situations.
