If you have read and listen to the recent material posted on this blog, you will have been informed that over the last few weeks, the new Syrian Government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, at minimum, facilitated the murder of tens of thousands of Syrian civilians; at worst the army that serves al-Sharaa’s government has willfully participated in this genocidal slaughter. Mostly civilians of Alawite or Christian sects have been brutally murdered in their homes and on the streets of their villages. The Russians, who have cleared out much of the men and equipment from their Hmeim Airbase in Tartous, are now hosting 8,000-10,000 refugees as the minorities targeted in the region have fled their homes in terror.
During the same period, the EU lifted their sanctions on Syria and promised him hundreds of millions of dollars to build up the country. Sharaa’s Foreign Minister was an honored guest at the World Economic Forum where he was interviewed by Tony Blair. Al-Sharaa himself was an honored guest at the Arab League meeting, and gave a speech where only a few weeks earlier, the previous president of Syria had spoken. Although the United States has yet to lift the onerous sanctions of the Caesar Act, their well paid Kurdish proxies in Syria have begun negotiations with al-Sharaa’s government to eventually rejoin the state on terms that are so far very much in the government’s favor.
Meanwhile, the minorities keep dying… and leaving the country wherever possible. Yesterday, there was news of a prisoner rebellion, put down by a massacre, at al-Adra prison near Damascus due to the terrible conditions there. But in the western MSM, we only see references to the old prison in Sadnaya where the expected underground cells and torture equipment were never found.
If you have read the mainstream media, you will know that Ahmed al-Sharaa, who, along with his band of rebels, drove out the ‘cruel dictator’ Bashar Assad, has formed an ‘inclusive’ interim government in Syria with representatives of minorities from around the country. The slaughter of civilians in the coastal area and elsewhere has not been covered. Well, let me correct myself. The descriptions of men going door to door murdering entire families, or rounding up the men and executing them, well documented on their own Facebook pages and WhatsApp accounts is reduced to an aside, to ‘clashes with Assad remnants’. The number of victims is frozen at 1000. The fact that loyalists to the previous government have already been disarmed and plead loyalty to this new, rather dangerous government, is never mentioned.
A couple of months ago, there was a series of mass murders of Christians and Alawites across the country. It was claimed that the victims were backers of Assad though Assad had fled the country leaving these people frightened and angry. In fact, in fear of their lives, they had pledged fealty to al-Sharaa and his new government and turned in their weapons weeks before. At the time, al-Sharaa stated that there was bound to be bad feelings after the long war, so this was only natural; that these instances would likely continue for a few years. Boys will be boys?
In today’s coverage, the Wall Street Journal, the NY Times and other notable U.S. media sympathize with the reborn al-Sharaa who will have a ‘difficult time’ restraining his ‘extremist’ forces. He has led these men on killing sprees across Iraq and Syria for 20 years. He fired the Syrian Arab Army and invited thousands of foreign fighters, a collection of fanatical mercenaries from west, and mostly east Asia, to join his army, and gave them Syrian citizenship. They were originally brought in through Turkey to facilitate a NATO proxy war, and for a more than a decade now, have been living in homes and villages deserted by Christians and Alawites who were murdered, or fled in terror during and after the war.
The MSM insists that Ahmed al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohamed al-Jolani, leader of Al Qaeda in Syria, has changed his ways. He has changed his clothes, and his hairstyle. He’s shaved his beard. But he hasn’t changed his army. His men are still killing innocent Syrians with impunity, and if he isn’t celebrating, he also isn’t concerned. Unfortunately for them, their protector was the ‘evil dictator’, who, after more than 10 years of holding the country together against a massive international effort to overturn his administration, finally abandoned a lost cause to save his life and those of his family. And yes, it appears that he abandoned the advisers who failed and betrayed him, and the Syrian people.
Al-Jolani has changed his presentation numerous times. He is a Syrian by lineage, but he grew up in Saudi Arabia, and is steeped in the Wahhabi culture there . He initially went to Iraq to join the fundamentalist ‘jihad’, where he eventually landed in Bucca, a notorious U.S. prison where he met and bonded with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. On their release, they formed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Al-Jolani took the name Jolani to identify himself as a Syrian, but his indoctrination was Wahhabi rather than in the tolerant Islam of the Syrian Republic where Christians and Muslims, Sunni and Shia, Druze and Alawite had been living together in relative peace for centuries.
The proxy war to destroy Syria, planned in Tel Aviv and Washington DC, sold to Syria’s greedy neighbors as a golden opportunity, is once again, simply ‘the Syrian civil war’. The admissions by US officials of fomenting the war, Operation Sycamore Timber, the murders by Saudi nationals of the son of the Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, the Grand Mufti of Syria, and of the son of the head of the secular Syrian National Socialist Party on their way home from college in 2011, forgotten. The import by Erdogan to Syria of thousands of Uigher fighters and their families from China, forgotten. The theft of Syrian factory equipment by Turkish and Qatari companies, lost in the fog of war. The deaths of 500,000 Syrians blamed on his predecessor who led the fight for their country’s integrity and their way of life.
Today, we are once again reading about ‘rebels’ who ‘ousted a Syrian dictator’. Al-Jolani changed his name to Ahmed Al-Sharaa. This may be his family name, and it is the name of a prominent family in southern Syria, but his personal origin is Saudi Arabia, and his entire legacy up to this point, is a legacy of terrorism tied to the name Abu Mohamed al-Jolani. The snake sheds its skin. Al-Sharaa has suddenly acquired a veneer of innocence through inexperience in his new job. His real experience is in running a predatory mob of ruthless killers. His new cabinet includes a few of his henchmen from Haya’at Tahrir al-Sham, and even one person who helped him to found al-Nusra Front, i.e. al-Qaeda in Syria, but some of the more notorious picks have been replaced by western approved technocrats. In the height of hypocrisy, they have included a woman, a blond with her long hair uncovered, in a country where women are now required to cover their hair in of fear of death.
This is today’s news. Tomorrow al-Sharaa will ‘normalize’ with Israel. What choice does he have? He allowed them to destroy all of Syria’s weapons. Weeks later, at the Arab League, he complained about them the way a child complains about the neighborhood bully. Well, this is the solution. And really, the bonding of sectarian genocidairs is hardly something to mourn. One hundred years ago the Saudis, and Israelis were established. Nearly 50 years ago it was Pakistan and Afghanistan. Now greater Syria will go to Israel with a token to to an increasingly predatory Turkey in repayment for Erdogan’s assistance.
The empire will continue to unroll a tapestry of ignorance and violence in West Asia. And the Christians and Alawites, like the Palestinians in Gaza, well they will disappear. That’s the hope anyway.
